The North Bank Road, Spokane Portland, and Seattle Railway photograph album [graphic], circa 1910-1912.

Album of photographs mostly depicting land that the North Bank Road, a branch of the Spokane, Portland, and Seattle Railway, passed through on the Washington state side of the Columbia River Gorge, circa 1910-1912. Includes photographs of dairy farms on Deer Island; White Salmon, Wash. and orchards and berry farms in the White Salmon Valley; and Goldendale, Wash. and nearby irrigation canals, pine timber, orchards, dairy farms, and wheat and barley fields. There is also a series of photographs depicting the McKenzie River, the Three Sisters, and a horseback and camping outing to Horse Lake and other locations in eastern Lane County, Or. as part of the Oregon Electric Railway Co.'s Clear Lake Power Project. Photographers include Benjamin Gifford, Kiser Photo Co., and possibly Edmund F. martin of Eugene, Or.

Benjamin A. Gifford (1859-1936) was born in DuPage County, Illinois. After briefly attending Kansas Normal College, Benjamin worked for two years as an apprentice in a Ft. Scott, Kansas, photo gallery. He finished his apprenticeship in Sedalia, Missouri, under William LaTour, and then returned to Fort Scott to become a partner in a photo studio.
